Leakage control of HFC cable TV networks has become very important in the era of return path services. Many cable TV operators have improved the quality and performance of their networks by removing leak sources and continuous leakage monitoring of the network. There is a new serious threat of service quality – the LTE 800 mobile system. Base stations and terminals can be a source of huge ingress which decrease the quality of the down- stream and upstream services. Moreover, signals leaking from CATV networks can interfere with LTE signals (possible conflicts with LTE operators and national spectrum regulators). All CATV networks should meet the essential requirements defined in the EMC Directive. This requirement is often overlooked by CATV operators in Europe. The leakage measure- ment report can be a proof of compliance.

TX/RX AMS 2010 GPS KABELKOM has been known for many years as a company which helps the Eu- ropean CATV operators to control leakage and ingress. The Automatic Leak- age Control System (ALMS) developed by KABELKOM is very popular in Europe. KABELKOM has a new offer for the operators who either has been using ALMS or have many CLI meters and want to begin leakage control of their networks. We have developed a new system for leakage control – AMS CLIUPG. It consists of:

  • CLI-1450/1750 meter
  • specialized device AMS (instead of PDA or a smartphone) which processes and saves the measurement data (GPS coordinates and leakage magnitude).

 

Some users of the ALMS had problems with PDA configuration. The new system does not require any knowledge of Mobile Windows. The user interface of ALMS CLIUPG is simpler and easier than ever. AMS prepares visualization files which can be opened in GoogleEarth.

 

AMS has the following advantages:

  • built-in GPS receiver
  • very long battery operation (up to 24 hours of continuous work)
  • very simple and intuitive user interface
  • very simple wireless connection to the CLI meter
  • visualization of measurement files in GoogleEarth (no data post-processing required)
  • possibility to upgrade to the new AMS2010 leakage meter.

 

We have three possible purchase options:

  • upgrade option for current ALMS users – the user will receive the AMS device,
  • option for the owners of CLI meters – they will receive the new CLI battery with a Blue- tooth module and the AMS device,
  • option for all leakage control beginners – they will receive the CLI meter, the AMS device, and a leakage tagger. We also offer professional training on leakage control and measurements for engineers and technicians (the training is free if you buy 5 or more ALMS CLIUPG systems).
